Overview and Features
As we mentioned, not only is this model priced affordably, it also comes loaded with some great extra features and programming options that make cooking with the Cuckoo a breeze.
This model features smart technology via an internal microchip that’s installed inside the rice cooker. This microchip is loaded with cooking algorithms that are designed to provide an optimal cooking performance with each mode.
Cooking Mode Options
If you’re looking for a rice cooker that can do it all, Cuckoo delivers. Besides having one of my favorite names for a cooking pot in my kitchen, this model features a variety of cooking options based on different types of rice including:
- Sushi rice
- Mixed rice
- White rice
- Scorched rice
- Nutritious rice
- Rice porridge
This rice cooker can also handle:
- Black beans
- Fermented foods
The rice cooker is equipped with an X-wall marble stainless steel pot that’s specifically designed to provide optimal temperature control and top of the line heat distribution for even cooking. The pot is definitely built to last and features two layers of nonstick coating, which prevents food from sticking to the surface, making cleanup a cinch. The exterior air bubble coating is what promotes even cooking and a faster heat up time. It also helps to prevent damage to the induction heat coils.
This cooker has a six-cup uncooked rice capacity, which produces twelve cups of cooked rice. This is a higher rice capacity compared to other models in this price range, which typically offer an average three to five cup rice capacity.
Care and Maintenance
The included auto cleaning mode is one of this rice cooker’s best features. With a single push of a button, a jet of water sanitizes and cleans the interior. The steam process takes it one step further by sanitizing the interior and preventing bacteria growth. The entire cleaning process takes approximately twenty minutes and thoroughly cleans the interior of the rice cooker, so you don’t have to. We recommend using the self-cleaning mode after each use. The pot can be removed and washed by hand in warm soapy water.
The buttonless control panel and one-touch design makes it easier to scroll through menu options to customize the cooking process.
The rice cooker’s thermal fuse helps to prevent the appliance from overheating. However, in the event it does overheat, an alarm will go off and alert users to the issue.
The lid is equipped with a slow open mechanism which helps to prevent damage to both the hinges and lid.
The multi-cook function is another huge selling point. This rice cooker is able to cook so much more than just rice. In fact, it can handle poultry, meat, bread, veggies, and more. It also allows you to cook these special dishes and rice at the same time.
- Multifunction operation
- Overheating protection
- Slow opening lid
- Nonstick pot
- Induction heat
- Highly programmable
- Six cup capacity
- Automatic cleaning mode
- Included user’s manual is very vague
- Does not come with extra accessories
- Default language is set to Japanese which can make setup difficult
What Makes This a Smart Rice Cooker?
The rice cooker’s internal chip provides the smart algorithm that ensures you’re getting the best results with each batch of rice. The fuzzy logic technology is able to determine when your rice is cooked to perfection based on the type of rice you’re cooking.
Can I Add Sauces and Seasonings to the Rice While it’s Cooking?
Yes, you can! This is a multipurpose model, which means it can handle cooking a variety of dishes including soups, sauces, and much more. We recommend adding sauce and/or seasoning midway through the rice cooking process for best results. To learn more, click here to read our article on rice cooker rice recipes.
Does this Model Come with Any Special Cooking Trays for the Other Food Options?
Unfortunately, it does not. You’ll need to ensure any cookware you use is compatible with this rice cooker, prior to use. If you’re looking for a rice cooker that comes loaded with free extras, including a baking dish, then we recommend the Tiger JKT-S18U 10-Cup (Uncooked) Multipurpose IH Cooker. However, this model by Tiger comes with a steeper price tag, although it offers a comparable performance in terms of cooking efficiency, preset options, and speed.

Highly programmable and equipped with a tough nonstick pot and direct touch control panel, this rice cooker scored big in a variety of areas. We gave this model a rating of four and a half stars out of five.
